What are proctoring services?
Proctor services provide professional oversight for exams to ensure academic integrity. A “proctor” is a neutral third party who monitors a student while they take a test to ensure that all rules are followed and that the person taking the test is who they say they are. A proctor’s job is to create a fair, distraction-free environment while preventing any form of cheating.
What Does a Proctor Actually Do?
Their responsibilities include:
- Identity Verification: Checking government-issued ID to ensure the correct student is taking the exam.
- Environment Security: Ensuring no unauthorized materials (phones, specific calculators, or “cheat sheets”) are in the room.
- Timekeeping: Starting and stopping the exam exactly on time.
- Monitoring: Watching for suspicious behaviour, such as looking away from the screen or speaking to others.
