Three Types of Tutoring

Choose the Program That's Right for You.

Deciding on the right kind of help when your child is struggling can be overwhelming. To help clarify what is involved in each type of tutoring, School House Canada will help clarify what tutoring is, what it is trying to accomplish, and what type of student would benefit from it.

School House Canada provides three main types of tutoring that will benefit most students. They are remediation, interventions and enrichment. All of our tutoring sessions are supplemented with learning coaching and test prepration.

Learning Coaching

Learning coaching focuses on teaching the student how to learn. It is meant to give the student the skills that he needs to meet academic goals and succeed academically. The coaching sessions focus on time management, organizational skills, study skills, and learning skills.

Test Preparation

Test preparation focuses on teaching the skills and techniques needed to take tests and helping the student who struggles with test anxiety.

Find the Right Type of Tutoring for You

Remediation

Remediation focuses on the student becoming proficient in a certain topic or module in a subject area. It is meant to give the student content skills that he needs to master concepts, reach benchmarks, and stay caught up with peers. Remediation is best for the student who is struggling with limited grade-level concepts.

Intervention

Intervention focuses on deeper-level learning strategies when a significant deficiency is present. It is meant to give the student the strategies to become proficient in a broader range of skills and concepts. Intervention is best for the student who is considerably behind his peers, has differentiated learning needs, and is potentially at risk of failing.

Enrichment

Enrichment focuses on the student’s learning at a deeper or more accelerated level. It is meant to engage and challenge the student in a particular area of interest or strength. Enrichment is best for the student who wants more challenge and needs more in-depth learning.

Assessment

Regardless of which type of tutoring arrangement you choose, Tutor Masters conducts a thorough assessment of each student to ensure instruction begins at the right level and truly meets individual needs. By identifying each learner’s strengths, gaps, and learning habits, our tutors can design a targeted learning plan that builds skills step by step without unnecessary repetition or overwhelming challenges. This initial assessment also creates a clear baseline, allowing teachers and parents to measure progress accurately over time. As students advance through their personalized learning plan, ongoing comparisons to this baseline highlight growth, celebrate achievements, and guide any needed adjustments. This thoughtful process ensures meaningful, measurable improvement for every student.
